What Do We Do?

At Perfusion Associates of Michigan, Inc. (PAM), we provide specialized perfusion and extracorporeal support services to hospitals and cardiovascular programs throughout Michigan. For more than 35 years, our team has worked alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, reliable, and patient-centered care.

Cardiopulmonary Bypass

At the core of our practice is the management of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) during cardiac surgery. Our perfusionists are responsible for the preparation and operation of the heart-lung machine and associated equipment, temporarily supporting the functions of the patient's heart and lungs during complex surgical procedures.

Before each procedure, our perfusionists review relevant patient information, collaborate with the surgical and anesthesia teams, and develop an individualized perfusion strategy. Throughout the procedure, we continuously monitor and manage blood flow, oxygenation, temperature, acid-base balance, anticoagulation, and other critical physiologic parameters.

Mechanical Circulatory Support

Our expertise extends beyond the operating room. PAM provides support for a variety of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) therapies used in the care of critically ill patients.

Our team has experience supporting technologies and therapies including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), ventricular assist devices (VADs), and other forms of temporary mechanical circulatory support. These therapies may be utilized for patients experiencing severe cardiac or respiratory failure, recovering from cardiac surgery or cardiac arrest, or requiring support as a bridge to recovery or more advanced therapy.

Specialized Perfusion Services

In addition to cardiopulmonary bypass and mechanical circulatory support, PAM provides a range of specialized services to meet the needs of our hospital partners, including autotransfusion and blood conservation, extracorporeal support, and other perfusion-related technologies and procedures.

Our contract model allows us to adapt our services to the needs of each cardiovascular program, whether that means providing comprehensive long-term perfusion coverage, supplemental staffing, temporary coverage, or specialized clinical support.

Quality, Education & Collaboration

Providing excellent perfusion care requires more than technical expertise. PAM maintains a strong commitment to quality assurance, continuing education, and evidence-based practice.

Our perfusionists participate in ongoing professional education, training, and competency development to remain current with advances in perfusion and mechanical circulatory support. We also collaborate with our hospital partners to develop protocols, evaluate clinical practices, review outcomes, and identify opportunities for continued improvement.

A Trusted Extension of Your Cardiovascular Team

As a locally owned contract perfusion group, PAM understands that every hospital and cardiovascular program has unique needs. Our goal is not simply to provide coverage—we strive to become a dependable extension of the teams we serve.

Through clinical expertise, responsiveness, consistency, and collaboration, we help our hospital partners maintain access to advanced cardiovascular services while keeping high-quality care available within the communities they serve.

For more than three decades, our mission has remained centered on the same principles: support our hospital partners, support our clinical teams, and provide exceptional care to every patient we serve.
